Classroom Music Instructor 

Illumination Learning Studio is a cultural, performing and fine arts academy with four locations in Ballard, Greenwood and Phinney Ridge.  We provide an inclusive learning environment where students engage in stimulating lesson plans, projects, games and structured curriculum.  Our teachers are specialized in the arts and early childhood education.

We are looking for a Classroom Music Instructor to join our team of Creative Arts instructors.  The Music Instructor works collaboratively with our creative team to develop and deliver K-5 lessons in theater, dance, art, voice and music.  The ideal candidate has prior experience in K-5 education, teaching music, lesson plan and curriculum development. This role will engage directly with his/her team to create and deliver fun and memorable learning experiences in music.

Job Types: Part Time

Hours: Monday-Friday, 23-25 Hours per week (18-hours onsite instructing/assisting, 4-hours lesson plan development, 1-hour team development meeting)

Pay: $18-20/hour, depends on experience

Reports to: Creative Arts Team Manager

Position Summary and Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver an engaging and compelling, K-5 age-appropriate art curriculum
  • Develop Curriculum with a focus on the Visual Arts Learning Standards/Washington Standards.
  • Develop Curriculum using the following music topics: Beat & Rhythm, Melody & Pitch, Harmony, Texture, Timbre/Tone Color, Form, Expression, Reading Music, Performing.
  • Organize and utilize instruments to perform a percussion song for the bi-annual Student Showcase
  • Organize needed materials for class
  • Travel between our locations to deliver music lesson curriculum
  • Assist at school pick-up and during After School programming before Music Class
  • Organize music materials at each site

Education and Skills Required

  • Prior experiences teaching music; classroom size 25-40 students with an assistant
  • Have passion for high-quality early childhood education and culture
  • Computer skills including experience with Drop Box, Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Email Service
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment in handling student/ parent relations
  • Ability to engage and further educate music students
  • Ability to contribute to the classroom and work environment in a positive manner
  • Be self-motivated, organized and open-minded
  • Ability to work independently or with supervisors and staff

Education and Skills Preferred

  • B.A. in Music
  • Experience in writing curriculum
  • Prior experience in childcare or early childhood education
  • Plays an instrument and proficient in site reading and theory
