ILS Mar. Parent Newsletter

March 26, 2019

Dear ILS Families,
Please read the following updates to learn about important initiatives we are working on and the creative arts activities your students have been engaged in after school.

Safety Week
This week is Safety Week at ILS. Students at each of our sites will participate in three safety drills as part of our comprehensive safety plan. We will be doing drills for safety lockdown, fire drill, and a extreme weather/earthquake drill. The goals of practicing these drills are to help our students feel prepared and safe at ILS and to know what to do should an emergency arise.

Student Progress Reports Coming Soon
ILS Student Progress Reports will be mailed home later this month.  Our Creative Arts instructors along with our site leads have been working on individual progress reports for students.  We encourage you to share what the instructors have written with your child in mind. The progress reports are meant to be informational and fun and to encourage their learning, passion and participation in the arts.

Annual Registration Fee Reminder 4/1
April 1st we will process our annual $100.00 Registration Fee for all of our current students who plan to return in the Fall. This nonrefundable fee secures your student’s space for the Fall and is used toward replenishing supplies and making upgrades and repairs to equipment and materials used in the After School program.  Please notify us if your student will not be returning, if you have a sibling that will be joining your student in the fall or if you will be changing schools.

March is the Last Month of Summer Camp Early Bird Discount
We will be running some really great Summer Camps again this year.  As a reminder, ILS families get 20% off the cost of Summer Camps and an additional 5% if registering and paying in full by April 1. Camps are filling quickly and we are seeing a lot of enrollments come in from outside families. If not paying in full, you may still register and reserve your Summer Camp weeks by paying just the camp deposit at this time. Register here.

School Year Extended
As a reminder, the school year has been extended to June 27th due to snow days we had.  ILS will be open for after school and on our normal pick-up schedule until school ends.

What we are up to in March

Voice with Mr. Nick

In voice class, we will cover Asian musical styles. We continue our practice of sight-singing music and strengthening vocal skills, but have a special focus on the music of India, Korea, and Japan.  We will discus North Indian Classical Music and its influence on Bollywood films, and conclude by covering the contemporary musical styles of Korea and Japan.

Dance with Ms. Meowset

In March, Ms. Meowset is teaching the students all about Russian culture and dance, such as Squat Dancing and Circle Dancing!

Art with Mr. Sam

We’re wrapping up our special effects makeup unit at all the sites, and looking ahead to the art show in May. Our big project in March is to construct plush moths for the art show.

Music with Ms. Candice

Ms. Candice is covering Musical Theatre and teaching the ILS students about famous Broadway musicals and technique. Candice will also be covering American jazz music.

Drama with Ms. Taylor

In March, Ms. Taylor is wrapping up film making and story writing with ILS students.
