Music and Improv at ILS Greenwood
  • Saturday Music

Music is a wonderful new adventure that children are immediately drawn to. Music is around us every day, so there’s no surprise that children gravitate towards musical instruments. Our Saturday classes provide a variety of ways for children to engage with music.

Music and Movement:  For toddlers 18 months – 42 months old, our Music and Movement classes let parents participate and learn alongside their children. This lively and upbeat class will teach our Little Movers to echo and sequence, rhythm and movement, and provide ear training and exploration of piano keys and instruments. Space is limited to 10 students, each with 1 parent or guardian.

Fall Session: Saturdays at 10am, September 17 – November 19, at ILS Greenwood (7720 Greenwood Ave N)
10 sessions at $225.00 Register Here

Private Music Lessons: We also offer private lessons in piano, guitar and ukulele in 20- or 30-minute lesson blocks for students from age 4. Learn More

  • Meet the Teacher

  • Youth Improv

Like music, improv provides many benefits for children, in harnessing both their creative and academic endeavors. Improv boosts our understanding of the four C’s: creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.

Beginning in September 2022, ILS is teaming up with CSz Seattle – Home of ComedySportz to bring youth improv classes to our Greenwood studio. Enroll today for our Fall Session.

Improv For Kids – 5 to 10 year old: Is your child funny? Looking for something fun, playful, and creative for your 5 to 10 year child to do this fall? Our Improv Comedy For Kids course can provide your child with that creative encouragement, and much more!

Over ten weeks, your child will learn confidence, creativity, and group support through a wide range of hilarious improv games and exercises designed specifically for kids. Led by a professional improv comedian and teacher, this course encourages group interaction and teamwork, all while they are playing in a safe and supportive environment.

They will learn such valuable skills as active listening, self confidence, working as a team, and the importance of supporting each other and making each other look good. All while they are laughing and having fun together the entire time! And it all ends with their very own showcase performance for family and friends to attend. A great experience that you and your child will never forget!

  • Meet the Teacher

Phoebe Richards is a Seattle based improvisor, director, teacher and podcaster. She grew up in Seattle and discovered her passion for performing by taking classes at the Seattle Children’s theater. After graduating from Evergreen State College in 2005 she returned to Seattle and began taking improv classes with Jet City Improv. Soon after she was being cast in shows and in 2012 was cast in ComedySportz Seattle and through them became an improv teacher. The skills Phoebe most focuses on with her teaching are listening, teamwork, and -most of all- imagination. She believes that the playfulness and storytelling in improv develops empathy, confidence and joy.

    • My kids have attended ILS for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and summer camps, and every single day, they go to school excited to learn and engage and come home happy, energized, and eager to share everything they’ve absorbed during the day. With the upheaval of the last year, ILS has provided stability for my kids, first online, and then in person, with their creative, dynamic programming (like Harry Potter summer camp!), and it has given our whole family so much comfort. I am so grateful to have found ILS for my kids!

    • ILS has provided wonderful after school enrichment for my children for the past 3 years, in addition to wonderful summer camps. During COVID, they have ensured safety with strict enforcement of health policies. I love that my daughter can still have some “fun” during these difficult times.

    • ILS is the highlight of my 7-year-old daughter’s day. She’s built strong friendships, loves her teachers and most importantly, really loves the programming. She comes home every day excited to share the art she’s created or tell us about a new skill she’s learned. We highly recommend ILS. It is filling a need for our daughter that isn’t filled during her school day. Thank you, ILS!
