ILS May Parent Newsletter

May 01, 2019

Dear ILS Families,
It’s just about showtime!  All of our students are wrapping up their final projects for the Art Walk on May 10th and the Performing Arts team is working on rehearsals for the big Spring Showcase (for all After-School students) on June 1st.

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 6-10
Next week is a week to celebrate for us.  Look for your site’s appreciation board and leave a message of encouragement or gratitude for the teachers and assistants at your child’s studio.  We have a few surprises planned for our team but it’s all the more fun when our community joins in to show our team how much we appreciate their tireless work!

As the weather begins to get nicer, some of our sites will be  looking to get out to parks that are within walking distance in the afternoons. When we do this, it’s typically early in the afternoon and our Site Supervisors post on the site door which park they are at, until what time, and a way to contact them.

Last little reminder, we will be closed on May 27th with no camps, in observance of Memorial Day.

Thank you parents and families for all of your support and partnership.  Have a great week!

Creative Arts Team Corner!

Dance, Drama and Voice

This month, our Performing Arts team: Ms. Meowset, Ms. Taylor, and Mr. Nick are all working steadily on the upcoming Spring Showcase for all ILS afterschool students! They are rehearsing a Russian Folk Dance, a short ILS skit, song, and the finale will be an original musical piece! We are very excited to showcase what we’ve learned this year at our showcase June 1st.

Art

Each of our sites are busy working on their final art projects for Greenwood’s ArtWalk on May 10th from 6:00-9:00pm. Mr. Sam’s last day at ILS was in April.  Sam was one of our favorite teachers and while we were sad to see him go, we are excited to continue learning about the great art and artists he introduced this year.

Music

Ms. Candice has also moved on from her role teaching at ILS to attend graduate school at UW where she will pursue her teaching degree. She will be missed, but we are excited for what the future holds for her.  Meanwhile, Mr. Will has been working on developing some new music and percussion classes that will be really fun for students.

Retooling our Creative Arts Team

Change is good and we are excited to begin our search for new instructors who bring their experiences and talents to our community of students at ILS.  Until then, Meowset, Nick and Taylor along with Will will continue to lead our weekly classes.
