Performing and Fine Arts Curriculum
Our After School Performing and Fine Arts Classes are designed for students to explore the topics of music, fine arts, drama, dance and voice. The structured classes are presented each afternoon with predefined lesson plans delivered by our specialty creative arts instructors. Students enrolled in our after school classes work up to a special Winter and Spring Showcase performance that showcases their achievements throughout each season.
Our students and their families come from diverse backgrounds, many with different customs, values, traditions and origins! In addition to our themed arts classes, we teach our students the value of community, respecting one another and honoring the differences of the people around us. The progress and performance growth that our family’s observe in their children when they attend Illumination Learning shows that our specialized after school programming can make a profound difference.

Core Performing & Fine Arts Classes Offered
Our Fine Arts class introduces young students to the principles of various mediums and artistic styles presented in visual arts. Students learn about famous and lesser known artists, their unique style, medium and overall contribution to the world of art. Students practice imitating famous works of art while adding their own unique creative spin on new works of art. At the end of each year, student’s present their art in gallery style, during the May Art Show.
Dramatic play and theater teaches students to work in a team environment that is lively and engaging. Students explore a broad range of performance acting, story creation, learning and creating unique parts, improvisation, character development, audition skills, crafting scenes and directing mini-performances. Our drama classes help children find their voice, builds confidence and helps them expand their imaginations as they reach for the stars.
Our dance class combines individual expression with choreographed movement for a truly collaborative creative environment. Similar to our other performing arts classes, students learn about a wide range of styles, dancers choreographers and their expressive techniques. Dance classes help students learn athleticism, self and group coordination, grace, poise, balance, fitness, flexibility and self confidence.
Music is one of the most accessible and enriching art forms for children to experience. Studies have shown that music education leads to better core learning skills, an increased IQ, higher self-esteem, as well as greater overall discipline and concentration for academic achievement. Our music classes are presented in a fun and highly engaging way and lay the groundwork for students to pursue instrument focused private or group lessons.
Voice the choral arts are an important element of any performing arts curriculum. Voice class gives students an ear for music, creates sense of unity and community, and helps to build creative and critical thinking skills. Children learn various elements of choir, learn fun and upbeat songs they can perform together, helps with emotional wellness. From rock to pop, rap and children’s chorus, this is a fun way for children to come together to join forces to accomplish incredible vocal sounds together.

My son has been attending ILS for over three years and absolutely loves it. He has been exposed to an incredible variety of music, dance, and physical art. The teachers are fantastic—fun, engaging, and great with kids. I highly recommend ILS!

My daughter attended ILS for four years and we can’t say enough good things about her experience. ILS is an amazing program. My son loves doing a new musical/play each trimester and has grown from a member of the chorus to having the confidence to audition for a speaking role! Love the amazing, supportive teachers!!!
We have sent our child here for four years (K-3rd grade) and it has been an awesome experience. Logistically it has been a huge help as our child is picked up from school by ILS and can stay there until 6. Substantively, he has really enjoyed all of the arts programming as well as the time to just be and play with his friends. The staff is patient, communicative, and infinitely supportive. If you are a two working parent household with a child in a school that they pick up from, I can’t recommend it enough.
ILS has always played a critical role in preserving our sanity and ensuring our kids are happy- especially this year. I remember when our (now) 5th grader was a kindergartner at ILS, saw some art and he said “Wow! That really looks like a Jackson Pollock!” He then rattled off a few more artists that he was learning to love and appreciate during his art class at ILS. That was just the beginning of our constant amazement at the cool artist knowledge, songs, dance moves, theater techniques or crafts our kids have come home with. The arts plus the fact that our kids have LOVED every single adult that has ever worked at ILS- the team there does an amazing job hiring adults who love kids- ILS is just really a special place! We are so thankful they’re part of our community!
We love ILS! Our daughters (6 & 9) attend the after school program as well as summer camps. The instructors are wonderful, the staff super responsive and helpful, and the content (arts, drama, dance) is super engaging. Highly recommend!
ILS creates wonderful arts enrichment programs for kids. They really set the standard for what youth arts education can look like. And bonus that your child can take private music lessons at the same time!
ILS has provided wonderful after school enrichment for my children for the past 3 years, in addition to wonderful summer camps. During COVID, they have ensured safety with strict enforcement of health policies. I love that my daughter can still have some “fun” during these difficult times.
