ILS Sept. Parent Newsletter

September 01, 2018

Dear ILS Families,
Happy back-to-school.  We are so happy to see our friends return for another great year of our cultural, performing and fine arts classes after school.  We have many new friends to welcome as well.

About Email Newsletters…Please keep a watchful eye out for this monthly update where we share important dates, performance details, camp info, music and enrichment activities we have going on, as well as updates about what our students will be learning each month.

September is always about getting to know the teachers and other students at ILS.  It’s a time when we begin to establish routines and students get to know our house rules and daily/weekly schedules.  By late in the month, students will be fully immersed in their Creative Arts learning.

Creative Centers ~ New This Year!
We have launched our afternoon Creative Centers which are aimed at providing students with a variety of creative arts activities that change each week.  From art projects to listening centers, creative writing to performance based story telling, technology stations to building and engineering – we have a lot of fun centers planned for students to engage in.  Think of it as free-time, or choice time with a purpose!  Our technology center contains iPads that rotate between our four sites.  iPads have been loaded with educational and strategy based games and screen-time per user is limited to 10 minutes.  With all of the students we have, it’s likely they might be on the iPad at most once a month.  Most of our creative centers are designed to engage students with activities that challenge their higher order thinking skills or invoke their creativity in fun, short sprints.

Studio Reminders:

  1. Please pack an afternoon snack (nut-free) and water bottle each day. Water bottles can be left here if they have your student’s name on them.
  2. Don’t forget to call or email your site by Noon each day, if your student will be absent.
  3. Our Creative Arts Classes run daily between 3:30-5:00.  If you are picking up your student during this time, we ask you to help them quietly gather their things so we don’t disturb the other students or teaching staff.  If you need, ask an assistant for help!

School-year Camps
All of our 2018-2019 School year camps have been posted on our website where you can get more information and pre-register.  If you have questions, please email Stephanie in our business office at info@ilskids.com.  We are really excited to have Nick Reynolds (our Voice Instructor) taking an expanded role with ILS this year to bring new creativity and ideas to our camps.  Nick has developed a fun mix of camps this year.  All of our school-year camps will be run out of our Locks and Greenwood locations this year and space is limited, so we encourage early enrollment.

That’s it for now.  We look forward to a fun year ahead and encourage you to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Your friends and teachers at Illumination Learning Studio!
